Maunsell Sea Forts.

Today I am going off of the ghost town trailer a little bit, and talking about the Maunsell Sea Forts. They were designed by Guy Maunsell. The forts were built during WWII to protect from mainly air assaults on britain. The forts, however, were never used to destroy anything, and were soon abandoned and by the late 1950's were decommissioned. They were then taken over by pirates in the late 1960's, who then set up radio stations. It didn't last long, because the coverage wasn't good. Some TV shows were filmed here, including a Doctor Who episode, and Danger man. Talk about a movie having these towers featured in them was going on, but nothing ever happened with that. The Sea Forts are now closed to the public because of dangerous conditions, but one of my dreams is to get in one of them. I don't think them being closed to public will stop me from living one of my dreams. If anyone has ever been there, feel free to comment what is was like up close.

Chernobyl

Chernobyl Disaster. It was one, if not the biggest, nuclear disaster in the world. It killed around 35 people. The cause of this was the operators in the nuclear power plant. They did not have much experience with Nuclear power physics, and violated MANY safety regulations. In fact, while running a test, they had a main safety feature for the plant off, ultimately causing the huge explosion. But that's enough about the power plant. Around 350,000 people had to evacuate Chernobyl because of the disaster. It's hard to tell how many people will die later on from the radiation exposure. But many pregnant women gave birth to defected children because of it, causing a HUGE amount of money to be spent on health insurance and lawsuits following the disaster. It overall was a terrible day for MANY people, and I can't imagine being there when that happened.

Sanzhi Pod City

The Sanzhi Pod City was a town that went into construction in 1978 in Taiwan. It was meant to be resort home, that was marketed toward U.S. Military officers returning home from their posts in East Asia after Vietnam. Unfortunately the construction was not only halted because of the loss of investments that the Taiwanese government made, but also several fatal accidents occurred while building. The deaths were caused by car accidents, and were told to be the result of cutting the sculpture of a dragon outside of the city gates. There were also stories that the place where the building was happening was a Dutch burial site. it sat there abandoned and somewhat unfinished for 40 years, until 2008. Early in 2008 there was talk about deconstruction happening. It was a sad, sad day. Despite MANY people supporting online petitions, the site was being demolished by the summer of 2008, and the last of them were gone by 2010. I would have loved to visit them, but unfortunately I was too young and even now I would NEVER convince my parents to take me to another country. Next blog will be about Chernobyl. See you next time!

Introduction

My name is Alec. I'm a 14 year old boy from small town in Iowa. My entire life I have loved researching ghost towns from mainly the 1900's. This blog may not be popular, but I want to share my findings with others who love looking back at abandoned buildings. When I am old enough to travel, I hope to visit ALL of these places.
